April Bazzi from AmeriCorps NCCC along with representatives from Volunteer Florida paid a visit to South Florida on Wednesday, November 7 to promote AmeriCorps NCCC as an awesome service opportunity for community betterment in South Florida.
AmeriCorps NCCC is an AmeriCorps Program that involves sending groups of 10-12 young people between the ages of 18-24 to do community-building service projects, such as disaster relief, building Habitat for Humanity homes, environmental clean-ups, and many other hands-on service opportunities. Their terms of service are 10 months long and they travel the country to serve in many different cities. They tend to stay in one location for 2 to 6 weeks and leave once the project is done.
South Florida is not known to take advantage of the awesome work that NCCC members are available to provide, and this short conference was an opportunity to spread awareness to groups possibly looking to host a class of NCCC members.
Having worked with NCCC members for the 2012 AmeriCorps Week celebration, I know first hand the value these corps members can provide. If your organization is interested in hosting a NCCC class, please contact April at ABazzi@cns.gov
